<image:title>Book Reviews - All Good People Here by Ashley Flowers - All Good People Here by Ashley Flowers</image:title>
<image:caption>This debut novel by Ashley Flowers was great. I had this book on my self and hesitated when I saw some not so kind reviews. When I finally picked it up, I was so happy that I did. It was a thrill ride. There were twists and turns that made me wanted to keep reading. Some you saw coming, but it still kept my attention. I don't want to give too much away, so here is the nutshell version. When Margot Davies was six years old, her friend from across the street January was murdered. January's Mother, Father and 9 year old brother were all under suspicion that someone in that house either knew who murdered January, or one of them did it. Her murderer was never brought to justice. Margot moved on with her life as most of the townspeople did. When Margot needed to return home to care for her ailing Uncle, news breaks that 5 year old Natalie Clark, who had been missing, body was found. Two young girls murdered in the same small Indiana town?? Margot decides she is going to find out who killed Natalie and January and bring them to justice. This one had an ending that you either loved or hated… I was team LOVE!! I definitely recommend this one.</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Reviews - Only If You’re Lucky - Only if You’re Lucky by Stacy Willingham</image:title>
<image:caption>If you love a slow burn book, this one if for you. I loved Stacy’s other two thriller novels, but this one just didn’t quite live up to those and somewhat missed the mark for me. It was quite the build-up and slow burn and fizzled out. I have mixed feeling about the ending. Only If You’re Lucky is a bit different from Willingham’s two prior novels. Yes, it's a thriller, but it's more of a slower paced character driven novel than a faster paced plot centered read like her other books. Only If You’re Lucky by Stacy Willingham will be available on January 16, 2024. A massive thanks to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for the gifted copy!</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Reviews - The Fury - The Fury by Alex Michaelides</image:title>
<image:caption>"My name is Elliot Chase, and I’m going to tell you a story unlike any you’ve ever heard." Lana Farrar, a reclusive former movie star, always surrounds herself with her closest theatre friends at Easter. This year is no different. Invitations are sent out to Elliot along with her husband Jason, son Leo, best friend, and fellow actress Kate, plus her assistant. They all join her on Aura, her private Greek island off the coast of Mykonos to celebrate. Corks are being popped, the champagne is flowing, and secrets are about to spill. It appears not everyone and everything is quite what it seems. Before long gun shots are heard, and someone is dead. And that's just the beginning to what you think you know... I almost set this one down in the beginning. It was a little slow for me when building the actual history, and secrets of the story and, it almost lost me. I stuck with it, and I am so glad that I did because the payoff was well worth the wait. Elliot was a wonderfully written, unreliable narrator, the setting was divine, and the remaining cast were wonderfully horrible and morally grey. Full of secrets, drama, obsession, and backstabbing, this story was a very entertaining read. I really enjoyed how the author intertwines Greek mythology into his books and The Fury reads like a Greek tragedy. I loved it! I think the ending is going to be divisive among readers. Some will love it while others may feel it is over the top. I can see both sides but, I’m with the loved it team. I got such a kick out of it. I gave The Fury 4 stars.</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Reviews - The Night of the Storm - The Night of the Storm by Nishita Parekh</image:title>
<image:caption>I was very excited for this book by the cover, the storyline, and it being Nishita’s debut novel. The cover screams mystery on a stormy night in an incredibly large house. I am here for it. The locked room concept had me ready for secrets, lies and murder. A wonderful, locked room scenario. Sadly, this book ended up just being okay for me. I wasn’t immediately drawn in at the beginning of the book, and I really felt the story was moving slowly. I just wasn’t getting that “one more chapter” feeling that just had me hooked, waiting for the next thing to happen. Unfortunately for me, it got exciting during the last quarter of the book, when I wish it would’ve had more twists and cliff hanging chapters. Jia, a recently divorced mom, has moved to Texas to be free of her ex-husband and closer to her sister. Her son, Ishaan, is having troubles at school, putting a strain on his relationship with his mother. Dev, Jia’s ex-husband, is trying to become involved in Ishaan’s life again as he’s remained in Chicago after the divorce. Then everything starts going wrong for Jia after her move to Texas, and without Dev in the picture anymore. She doesn’t have anyone to help, and money is tight. Jia sees her brother-in-law Vipul who showing up during her biggest struggles as an act of support from her sister Seema. Maybe they are calculated opportunities for Vipul to save the day and make his move on Jia. Although Jia is not encouraging his advancements, his random drop-ins and suggestive texts all suggest otherwise to anyone looking in from the outside. A secret affair, unwelcome advances, and family issues all come to a head when Hurricane Harvey hits Houston, Texas, and evacuation is the only answer. Jia thinks she’s doing what’s best for her and her son by following her sister’s guidance and choosing to wait out the storm at Seema and Vipul's house. Seema has also encouraged Vipul’s brother and wife to stay with them as well. As the flood waters rise and enter the house, so will tensions, as pieces start to fall into place and motives are uncovered. Some families will break and become unrepairable, but one will realign and become stronger than ever. Those who were once solely around each other as in-laws will become close friends. Who will make it out of the house alive and who will be swept up in the flood waters? Overall, this was two star read for me. I added a third because of the twist and the fact that’s it’s a debut author. I think that I would have advertised this more as a drama rather than a thriller.</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Reviews - The Heiress - The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins</image:title>
<image:caption>What an incredibly addictive and darkly twisted gothic mystery thriller. It kept me completely engrossed and flipping the pages until the very end!! When Ruby McTavish Callahan Woodward Miller Kenmore dies, her adopted son, Camden, inherits her family mansion and nine-figure fortune. Surprisingly, he wants nothing to do with the house or the money and flees to start his life over in Colorado. Ten years later, he receives an email from his cousin stating his uncle has passed away and that he should come home to Ashby house. Camden McTavish seems like just a normal guy who works as an English teacher and is happily married to his wife Jules. Cam knows if he were to go back to North Carolina, that dark hidden secrets are going to quickly come to light. The last thing that Cam want to do is what he and Jules do next. Pack their bags and head to North Carolina. Now the ride begins!!! The Heiress was a fast paced and entertaining read, and, in my opinion, I think this is my favorite book from this Rachel Hawkins. This family drama is full of morally grey (My favorite color) characters who are full of secrets and backstabbing behaviors. The ending is filled with multiple plot twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed this one and would recommend it.</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Reviews - Happiness Falls - Happiness Falls by Angie Kim</image:title>
<image:caption>I have mixed feelings about this book. I liked the story and absolutely appreciated the way Angie Kim brought much needed insight to a condition that’s so misunderstood. Not only for the people that it effects, but the families as well. With that being said, this was not the book that I was hoping for. I truly enjoyed the first half of the book, and where it was headed. Assumed missing Father, Detectives, both adult children trying to find answers, possible medical diagnosis...YES! I'm here for it. But that is where it fell off for me. It felt like trying to heard cats. There were so many different directions we were going, that I got frustrated. I did like that Angie Kim gave us a look into Eugene's personality and accomplishments. There were footnotes, that at times felt so off topic and random, that I stopped reading them. At about page 300, I starting looking to see how much more I had left. Wanting it to just be over. I just want to be clear, I did enjoy the premiss of the book, it just was not for me. Others may find this a fantastic read, and love it. Please do not let a review persuade you into not read a book. Happy Reading!!</image:caption>

<image:caption>This is now one of my favorite historical fiction books. I really enjoyed how well written and very descriptive it was. I felt like I was there tasting the dust. This book takes place in 1934 during the dust bowl in the panhandle of Texas. We follow the Martinelli family throughout the book. There are three generations of women, and each have their way of fighting through these hard time. The characters are well developed, and intriguing. Three strong women that show their endurance through struggles. Their story is heartwarming and heart breaking all at the same time. The world in 1936 and the world in 2023 seems like a vast time frame, but this book shows that the fight for equal rights is still the same. Be Brave…</image:caption>

<image:caption>If you are looking for that suspense, thriller, that you are sitting on the edge of your seat….Here it is! The premise of this book is chilling. How far would you go to protect your loved one and your unborn child? Even if she could be the one responsible? One day Jake doesn't come home after a pretty heated fight. Leaving his wife Nina worried, but pretty certain he is just so mad at her after their fight that he decided to not come home. Only it turns out that one of her good friends, Lily, was the last to see him alive. Lily shares that interaction with her husband, Christian and they decide to keep quiet. What follows is a web of lies that is impossible to overcome. I loved this one! The pages flew by and I couldn't wait to see how it ended. Of course it wasn't who I thought, and I was completely surprised by the ending There were a few red herrings, perfectly placed and a solid distraction to keep me guessing.</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Reviews - Blind Spots Available 4/4/23 - Blind Spots by Thomas Mullen Publication Date is April 4, 2023</image:title>
<image:caption>What if the next pandemic meant the entire population went blind? That is exactly what happened seven years ago – it took a matter of months but then it was complete darkness. Even babies were being born without their sight. Homicide detective Mark Owens has been on the force since before The Blinding, but he lost his wife. The world adapted by creating a device called a “vidder” which allowed people to see via an implanted device. Since the device came out criminals have been complaining they couldn’t see the suspect, or their device blacked out, but no one has every believed them, including detective Owens. That is until he sees it as well. As Owens heads down the rabbit hole, he wonders if he will be able to figure this out when he can’t even trust himself. This book was fun and held my interest. I didn’t really enjoy the pacing at the beginning as I felt like it was building rather slowly, but then it picked up towards the second half. I didn’t want to put it down as I wanted to know what happened. Besides the pacing this story worked really well. It was an original plot and the twists were enjoyable. Let me start by saying I am not normally a fan of the post-apocalyptic novel. Life is dark and dreary enough at times in this weird modern world, that imagining and even more dark and dreary one is not exactly what I call a relaxing and entertaining event. Which makes my response to this novel all the more surprising - I loved this one. I was engaged from start to finish in a way that does not normally happen with futuristic tales about the world trying to piece itself together after some catastrophic event. This was a very original and very interesting story that rolled out with a pacing that was perfectly tailored to its plot. I found the characterizations to be interesting and engaging. I found the concept of The Blinding to be a fascinating and horrifying one, yet in the context of the weird stuff that happens every day, somehow plausible. I really enjoyed the way backstory and contemporary story were blended together to reveal all the information you needed to understand the world that Mullen established. I will definitely be looking for more from him.</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Reviews - What Have We Done - What Have We Done by Alex Finlay</image:title>
<image:caption>Twenty five years ago, something dark was happening at Savior House, a group home for orphans in Chestertown, Pennsylvania, and several girls went missing. That is, until five teens—Jenna, Donnie, Nico, Arty, and Ben—found a way to put a stop to it. But now, in the present, someone seems to seeking revenge on those five. Ben has been murdered, and attempts have been made on the lives of the other four. Will they be able to figure out who’s hunting them down, and why, before it’s too late? As is Mr. Finlay’s style, the story in What Have We Done is told by shifting narrators, mostly in the present but with occasional memories to relate moments from the past. The alternation of narrators does a nice job of slowly revealing little morsels about what happened, the characters’ various secrets, and the occasional red herring. The writing is strong, and the short, staccato chapters propel the story forward. That said, What Have We Done didn’t work for me as well as Mr. Finlay’s earlier novels. What happened in the past was largely predictable, and the one piece of it that wasn’t predictable was never adequately explained. What was happening in the present was far too dependent on debatable choices (especially the one that put the whole story in motion), and several unrealistic characters (Jenna, Haley and Casey). What Have We Done has an interesting premise (though not necessarily an original one). But I think the story sacrifices some emotional depth and logic, and leaves some complicated ideas unexplored, focusing instead on creating lots of action sequences. It’s not a bad book, just a bit underwhelming. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Reviews - The Family Bones - The Family Bones by Elle Marr *Free on Kindle Unlimited on Pub Day</image:title>
<image:caption>This was a very interesting, tense, and unique book. It is hard to talk about it without spoilers...... It is told in three voices, Olivia a graduate student, researching psychopathy for her dissertation and for personal reasons as it is strongly part of her family’s history. It is told by as well by a podcaster, looking into a cold case that is connected to the same family. And in journal entries of an unknown woman who seems to be connected as well. It culminates in a family reunion, while the setting, a locked room mystery, people dying, trapped by a storm, It is told in a unique, unpredictable way. This one was a wild ride! The story centers on Olivia, who is a grad student who comes from a family who exhibit psychopathic (amongst others) tendencies throughout multiple generations. Olivia has tried to distance herself from her family but is working on her dissertation around whether these traits or inherited or not, and wants to talk to her grandfather as part of her research. You also get chapters told by a podcaster named Birdie who is tracking down a missing person, and chapters from an unknown person's journal. All of these are weaved together in a big way as the story unfolds. I like the style of alternating narrators and I enjoyed reading chapters by both Olivia and Birdie. I really liked Birdie and felt like she is someone I'd want to know better; The author did a great job of creating the scene of the resort where Olivia's family was staying- I could picture it well as I was reading. The story itself was very fast-paced and there was a lot of action (and killing!). I was truly surprised by the end, as I thought the twist was obvious and then it turned out that I was completely wrong. Well done to Marr on tricking me! My one nit with the story is that there were an awful lot of characters and I kept forgetting who was who and how they were all related, and then had to reference back to remind myself. Overall, this was a unique read and was a fun mix of of the mystery and psychological thriller genres. It had kind of a "locked room" vibe since the family was in a secluded area but people kept disappearing. I'd recommend to those who are fascinated by psychopathy and also just like a good mystery. First of all I love the authors writing style a lot, it‘s a dual POV with news stories and journal stories as chapters as well, which makes the book even more interesting. It‘s so easy to read and to follow the story. It wasn‘t the bestbook I ever read but I enjoyed it quite a lot. It talks about mental illness and the huge question that gets asked a lot in the plot is if being a psychopath is something that they are born with or something that they are conditioned to be. It‘s an interesting topic and makes you think about stuff like that.</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Reviews - The Writing Retreat - The Writing Retreat by Julia Bartz</image:title>
<image:caption>This is a perfect read when you are wanting something creepy, calculated and clever. The Writing Retread is a delicious and disturbing twisted story about a once in a lifetime opportunity. Our protagonist Alex is attending a month-long writing retreat. Alex is an aspiring writer and associate editor in a publishing company. Alex has been suffering from writers block for a year after a series of events ends her longtime friendship with Wren. The writing retreat is being held at the famous horror author, Roza Vallo’s home, Blackbriar Estate in the Adirondacks. Among the four other aspiring writers is Wren, Alex’s former best friend with whom her problems remain unresolved. However, this is not an opportunity to be missed and Alex is thrilled to be attending and unwilling to let Wren’s presence ruin this experience for her. Roza has the aspiring writers on a rigorous schedule. Expecting them to have written a full- length novel by the end of the month. Rosa is motivating them with a lucrative publishing deal for the “winner”. With her struggles with writer's block, escalated tensions with Wren, it has been hard for Alex to keep up. Roza’s unorthodox methods of running her retreat, the isolated location and eerie occurrences in the house. Blackbriar Estates has an unnerving history surrounding its original owners. What follows is a thrilling ride with secrets, lies, manipulation and hidden agendas that has the group wavering between sticking together and suspicion directed toward each other and mentor Roza. The question that is being asked is, how far would each of them go to fulfill their dreams and at what cost. With its atmospheric, isolated setting with Gothic vibes, complicated characters, consistent pacing and complex plot. This dark and suspenseful psychological thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first page. I absolutely devoured this story. This is the kind of book that you would want to finish in one sitting! Overall, The Writing Retreat is an impressive debut novel and I look forward to reading more from this talented new author in the future.</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Reviews - The Girls Who Disappeared - The Girls Who Disappeared by Claire Douglas</image:title>
<image:caption>In Autumn 1998 Olivia Rutherford and her three friends are driving back from a night out, down Devils Corridor near Wiltshire. The Rain is pounding down, Olivia swerves her car to try not to hit the man in the middle of the road. Olivia was out cold and when she comes to, she is pinned in her car. Her legs are trapped, and her three friends are nowhere to be seen. Where has her friends gone? Twenty years later, the anniversary of the accident and the disappearance of the three girls, a podcaster, Jenna Halliday arrives from the BBC to the village to investigate and found out what happened to the girls. Jenna is not welcomed by the villagers, and they do not want her there. Weird things start to happen, and Jenna get threatened and told to leave. Why won’t locals want her to find out the truth about that day? The Girls Who Disappeared is highly intriguing and eerie. The multiple POV and possible supernatural/paranormal elements throughout the setting really kept me intrigued throughout. Another of my favorite aspects is the emotional, and complex characters. This one is a hit for me! I love a book with a podcast element and this one delivered. I was excited to be able to read this one, as I loved Local Girl Missing and The Couple at No. 9</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Reviews - The Villa - The Villa by Rachel Hawkins</image:title>
<image:caption>This is a psychological thriller novel layered with a suspenseful dual story and timeline. We are a story within a story told decades apart. The two timelines intertwine and get more interesting when Emily begins to find secrets and clues inside the villa about the murder that took place there in the past. These discoveries lead up to an unexpected turn and a few surprise twists in the story. The Book is largely told from Mari’s perspective in the past, and Emily’s perspective in the present. Both Mari and Emily are effective narrators in very different circumstances. In 1974, a time famous for sex, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll, Mari knows she’s in a bit over her head. She is staying with her stepsister and three grown men in a secluded Villa. Emily, on the other hand, knows she’s directionless. After coming to terms with her pending divorce, financial difficulties, and the pressure to finish her upcoming book. Both find inspiration at the villa to escape their pasts and the shadow of the men in their lives. Emily begins to read about Mari and the villa Rosato Horror. Emily suspects that this was more complicated than people were led to think... Overall, was a dual narrator that was easy to follow, and suspenseful! It’s about friendship/sisterhood and it makes you think about the lengths you might go for that certain bond. This was another great one by Rachel Hawkins. I love The Wife Upstairs, Reckless Girls and now...The Villa.</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Reviews - The Devil You Know - The Devil You Know by P.J. Tracy</image:title>
<image:caption>This is the third novel in the Detective Margaret Nolan series. The Devil You Know is a well written, fast paced, entertaining crime thriller. I loved that our protagonist is a likable, intelligent, strong, and capable Female Detective. The body of actor Evan Hobbes is found in the debris, after a Malibu landslide. The day before the landslide Evan was threatened with a video that shows him in compromising acts. Evan knows that this is a deep fake, yet he knows this could ruin his career. Was it an accident, suicide, or Murder. Detective Nolan must solve this, all the while the body count continues to rise. There were a lot of moving parts and characters to keep up with, but I really enjoyed the twists and turns that I did not see coming. I think that this was the best book in the series. <image:title>Book Reviews - Locust Lane - Locust Lane by Stephen Amidon</image:title>
<image:caption>Locust Lane is wonderfully written mystery thriller that had me turning pages fast! I was so eager to find out where this was headed and how everyone was tied into the murder... The book starts out with Patrick hitting a dog while out on an early morning drive. Yes, he swerved, but when he got out to check on the dog, he thinks he sees a figure standing in the woods. Patrick cannot be sure of what he sees since he has been drinking. The shocking murder of a teenager, Eden Perry is revealed. Eden was murdered in a house nearby and the suspects are three teens that live in her neighborhood. We watch the well-meaning parents help solve the mystery and still protect their children. The story is told by different points of view of characters that all have something to do with the murder. It’s truly a story that could happen to anyone in any neighborhood. Stephen Amidon is an excellent storyteller. He has you gripped with the first line, and you are following the breadcrumbs until the end. I liked that I was constantly thinking a different person was responsible for the murder, but as soon as you think that...here come an unexpected twist and turn and now you don’t know who it is anymore. I am looking forward to reading more of his books.</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Reviews - Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six - Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger</image:title>
<image:caption>When each member of the family received a genealogy test for the Holidays , they decided to take them. Still not knowing who sent them? Now these answers may reveal more than anyone is ready to hear, leaving a disturbing question. How well do you know your own family? Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is a psychological thriller about three couples from the family, who vacation in a luxury cabin in the woods of Georgia. With the threat of a hurricane, hidden motives come to light, affairs are revealed, and a dark secret is discovered, concluding in murder. There are numerous characters and multiple points of view to keep track of, some of which are completely unnecessary. The timeline is written alternating between the past and present. I did not connect to any of the characters since they really did not have any background and what we did learn about them was very superficial . The plot is beyond convoluted . Yes, big cabin with no power and a killer on the loose. Easy enough, but all of the unimportant things that did not matter. There are too many characters, and some of the storylines are never resolved. There were some good parts to this book: The plot did have potential, and the isolated cabin elevated the creepiness, but overall I was hoping all the pieces would come together for me in the end. Nope. I was left feeling confused with at least one if not two unanswered questions. I have read other book by Lisa Unger and they have been hit or miss for me. Unfortunately, I really wanted this to hit, but it was a miss.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Amelie has always been a survivor. After losing both parents, she is forced to make a life for herself in London with help from Carolyn Blakely, the woman who took her in. Amelie meets and marries, a billionaire named Jed Hawthorne. He has his own motivations for the marriage and lays out a "quickie marriage" plan that seemingly should work well for both. You can probably guess that it doesn't!! They both have their own motives to marry one another. But soon after the marriage, Amelie is kidnapped. Who has kidnapped her and why does she feel safer there in that dark room than with her own husband? I enjoyed the short chapters in the book. I felt that it kept the book moving at an even pace. The dual timelines were also enjoyable and kept me invested. The book started strong and instantly grabbed my attention and had me wanting to know more. I enjoyed this book. I was excited to be able to read it. I have read other B.A. Paris book and enjoy her writing style and storytelling.</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Reviews - A Guide To Being Just Friends - A Guide To Being Just Friends by Sophie Sullivan</image:title>
<image:caption>I love friends to lover’s troupes. Let me tell you that this one did not miss. Wes and Hailey's characters are so well written, and the development was well done as well. I’m sure this is probably the reason why I liked the book as much as I did. I had no idea at the time when I requested this from NetGalley, that this was the third book of a series. This story follows Wes Jansen and a new shop owner Hailey Sharp. Hailey is starting to open her new shop, and it’s been challenging to say the least. Wes and Hailey have a cute moment in a coffee shop after a misidentification by Wes. They both thought this was a once encountered moment, but they run into each other again after Hailey's company is hired to provide salads for a meeting that Wes is at. Things progress and their friendship grows, neither wanting more due to experiences from past relationships. Hailey and Wes together, and their relationship...when they got there because this was a slow burn...but very cute. It was refreshing that, for the most part, they had a functional line of communication and were able to see from each other's points of view. Hailey with her strong independent mind set and Wes with only wanting to help Hailey succeed and protect her. I enjoyed Hailey and Wes’s characters and was rooting for them, but I am always a sucker for the independent woman and protective/supportive male relationship! After my enjoyable experience with this one, I am planning on picking up the other two books. Although I hadn't read the first two books, it was completely fine. This book stands strong on its own and does a great job incorporating the previous characters into the narrative. You have time to read the first two books in the prior this one being released!! <image:title>Book Reviews - The Choice - The Choice by P.D. Viner</image:title>
<image:caption>You must kill the one you love to save your own life...Can you do it? This story follows Sarah, a woman on the run after being framed for the forced murder of her boyfriend. Sarah has a choice, give in to the demands of her blackmailers or be turned into the police. Sarah knows she can prove her innocence, but at what cost? The book is a clever, gripping, and an exciting read. The plot initially left me with more questions than answers, which I enjoyed. It is written in dual timelines, helping us understand the rationale for events in the present. As a reader, I couldn't help but feel for our protagonists’ circumstance. Her emotions of helplessness, acceptance, forgiveness, and her determination. The uncertainty of survival is gut wrenching, coupled with many twists and turns that work exceptionally well for this thriller. The ending is mind-blowing and well-executed. It was a highly entertaining rollercoaster thriller that kept my attention from beginning to end. I couldn’t have put the book down even if I had wanted to. I had to find out what happened next! This book is full of suspense and mystery, and I was here for it! This was my first P.D. Viner book, and I look forward to reading more work from him.</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Reviews - I Know Where You Live - I Know Where You Live by Gregg Olsen Thomas & Mercer</image:title>
<image:caption>Your wedding day should be one of the happiest days of your life. For Violet, it will be a day she and her family will never forget. He wasn’t supposed attend, but of course he does... and then chaos ensues. Violet’s grandfather dubbed Papa wasn’t welcome. So, when Papa suffers a sudden, and suspicious heart attack at Violet's wedding, she can barely conceal her joy. Violet attends a support group for abuse survivors. Could one fellow survivor be right: moving on is possible only when monsters are removed from society permanently. Violet is reclaiming the power stolen from her as a child. I love books written by Gregg Olsen, and of course this one did not disappointed. The book was very well written, told in alternating chapters between Rose and her two daughters Lilly and Violet, you get to see each of their perspectives on the situation. This book had it all. Generational family drama, mystery, suspense, there was something for everyone. This was literally a page turner for me. At times I felt like I was on the side for our Protagonist. Yet, all the of the characters were compelling, and then found myself rooting for them all for different reasons. I read this book in one day and it stuck with me after it was done. <image:caption>Emma Tapper #1 in series Is he guilty or innocent? Even he doesn’t know... Nicolas Moretti wakes up on his thirtieth birthday covered in his twin sister's blood. He has no memory of the night before and is the prime suspect in his sister's murder. Jasmine and Nicolas are twins who just celebrated their birthday. During the night, tragedy strikes, leaving one twin dead and the other one on the run. In walks Emma Tapper, an ex-cop who is traumatized by past events that she tries to forget by drinking. Emma is hired by Nicholas's lawyer to aid in his case, who seems more concerned about winning her cases and less about the truth. Emma starts her investigation and finds hidden secrets, that people are willing to do anything to keep quiet. Emma also finds evidence that Nicolas may be innocent, now she must prove this fact to everyone else. This is a riveting thriller, with a suspenseful plot and engaging characters. For me, Emma was the only hard character to like. The book was slow in some parts, but also a page turner throughout the middle to end. I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series The Missing Man Pub Date 12/20/2022.</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Reviews - The Resemblance - The Resemblance by Lauren Nossett (McMillian Publishing/audio)</image:title>
<image:caption>Set in a Southern University with a dark past of privilege, secrets, and death. Detective Marlitt Kaplan happens to be on the University campus when a hit and run takes place. She runs outside to find the victim dead in the crosswalk. Though there are many witnesses, they can only agree on three things- the driver looked identical to the victim, he was driving the victim’s car and he was smiling. This story is part police procedural, part general critique of the Greek system. Marlitt has a long-standing grudge against fraternities and all the avoidable tragedies that happen under their watch. I felt that the story relied too heavily on stereotypes, leading the characters to become misrepresented at times. The flashback scenes are far and few between, not allowing the reader to fully comprehend, and possibly empathize with why Detective Kaplan distrusts of fraternities and the Greek system. I felt as a reader, not being able to connect with our Protagonist and ended up disliking her. The reveal comes out of nowhere and denies the reader of any opportunities to put the pieces together for themselves. Finally, the ending is just so abrupt. I felt like I had questions still burning in my mind. Overall, it was a fun read with some surprising twists that will keep readers on their toes. This being a debut, it is objectively a great thriller and a page turner.</image:caption>

As Jax thinks of ending his life, he gets a call over his radio that a young girl, Allison, has gone missing. As he starts to unravel the clues as to how Allison went missing, he begins to find meaning in his life again. There are so many twists and turns in the book that I absolutely LOVED. This book had me hooked from the very start. It has a great pace; some chapters are a little slower and some chapters you can’t help but tear through. I love a mystery that’s tied to cold cases and that keeps you guessing. I am excited for more books in this series and will be picking them up on Pub Day!</image:caption>
